Huh, I didn't necessarily see that it was terribly sad (sorry, just couldn't connect to the characters at all. I was partly turned off by the lousy art, and the characters seemed, well, flat and annoying more than anything else) nor really "about" The Simpsons.

Wow. It took me a little bit to get into it, due to the character designs, but the ending was devastating. Interesting stuff.
